In 2007, on a trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories Maryjane
Behforouz sensed in herself a deep-rooted connection to the people of that region and their struggles for peace. "She returned absolutely compelled to do something positive toward peace and compassion in our world," says her Iranian husband, Michael Behforouz. Since that visit, Maryjane has been interviewed on C-SPAN's Q&A program, which chronicled a recent trip to the region. She has also served as a board member of a peace-building school in Israel, Nazareth Academic Institute (Mar Elias). In 2009, she founded Pedal for Peace to connect people in her local community to organizations promoting peace through education. She believes that the more opportunities we have to connect to our universal "oneness", the more we will strive to eradicate suffering and bring hope to the hopeless. Maryjane has a Masters in Organizational Behavior and Development and has had many vocations including healthy building consultation (Leed/Building Biology Certified), adventure wilderness trip planner/recruiter/leader, and advertising. She continues to travel whenever she has the opportunity. Maryjane lives with her husband and their two children in Indianapolis. |
